Armchair BEA: Welcome to Notorious Spinks Talks Books

by Notorious Spinks on 05.23.2011

To everyone visiting from Armchair BEA, Welcome!  Make yourself cozy, lean back in your armchair and grab a cup of coffee.

I’m Yolonda and I blog from Memphis, TN.  I’ve been a book blogger since December 2009 and I absolutely love it.  A fellow book blogger convinced me to start a book blog because I read so many books and we usually ended up discussing them so…aha…here I am.  If you want to connect with me I am on Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads, Shelfari and Library Thing. Yes I’m registered with all the online yellow pages.

Class of 2011

Well to break the ice, let’s talk about books.  My genre of books are memoirs and biographies.  There is just something about getting to know people and where they come from that I love.  When it comes to authors my all time favorite is Zora Neale Hurston.  I love her gumption, real talk and writing style.  If you haven’t read any of her books then you should pick up a title or three.  My favorite reads of 2011 so far have been Skipping a Beat by Sarah Pekkanen (review here) and True You: A Journey to Finding and Loving Yourself by Janet Jackson.

If you’re in the L. A. area July 8-10 stop be sure to attend Blogging While Brown where I will be one of the panelists.  The panel is, The Niche of Book Blogging.  Can’t make it to Blogging While Brown?  That’s okay.  You can still support me.  I’m in the running for The Black Weblog Awards, Best Book Blogger.  I’d love for you to go over and vote ( for me.  My category is a new one and is at the bottom.

So that’s it for me.  I’m just a book blogger who loves to share my world, one book at a time.

Make sure you leave a link to your blog or BEA post so I can stop by and show you some love.

Nice to meet you. I found you from Pussreboots interview of you. I love nonfiction including memoirs. I now follow you on GFC and facebook and look forward to more of your reviews.

I really enjoyed Skipping A Beat. I’ve read several memoirs in the last year – that’s new for me. Usually I’m a fiction girl. Heading over to vote for you now!
